TODAY'S EPISODE: Discovering the Bread That Truly Satisfies
In today's readings, we encounter two very different understandings of what it means to know God.
In Job 22, Eliphaz continues to insist that Job's suffering must be the consequence of his wrongdoing. He urges Job to return to God, convinced that if Job simply gets his life right, everything will be restored. But his words reveal the limitations of a faith built on religious certainty rather than compassion.
Then, in Mark 7–8, we encounter Jesus challenging religious traditions that have lost sight of the heart of God. He reminds the religious leaders that what truly matters is not outward appearances or religious performance, but the condition of the human heart.
We also see Jesus responding to the persistent faith of a Gentile woman, healing a man who cannot hear or speak clearly, and feeding thousands of hungry people.
And when the disciples become anxious about having enough bread, Jesus invites them to remember what they've already witnessed.
The One who feeds the multitudes is right there with them.
Today's readings invite us to move beyond a faith focused on getting everything right and discover the life-giving presence of Jesus, the One who nourishes us with grace, restores our hearts, and reminds us that God's love is more than enough.
