TODAY'S EPISODE: Finding Peace in the Storm
In today's readings, we encounter the contrast between fear and faith, judgment and grace, and the remarkable faithfulness of God in the midst of life's storms.
In Job 18, Bildad continues to offer Job a harsh explanation for his suffering. He's convinced that suffering must be the consequence of wrongdoing. His certainty leaves little room for compassion, reminding us how easily our religious explanations can become obstacles to love.
Psalm 114 celebrates the God who delivered Israel from Egypt, the God before whom the sea fled and the mountains trembled. It's a beautiful reminder that God's power is revealed in the liberation of his people.
And in Acts 27–28, we follow Paul on a dangerous voyage toward Rome. A violent storm threatens to destroy the ship. The passengers are terrified, and all hope of survival seems lost. Yet Paul becomes a voice of courage and reassurance, pointing to God's faithfulness even as the storm continues.
Together, these passages invite us to remember that God's presence is not dependent on calm seas. The One who delivered Israel, sustained Paul, and revealed his love in Jesus Christ is present with us in every circumstance.
