TODAY'S EPISODE: The Love That Death Cannot Defeat
In today's readings, we encounter the mystery of God's greatness, the depth of human suffering, and the extraordinary hope revealed in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In Job 26–27, Job continues his response to his friends. He speaks of the majesty and mystery of God, describing the wonders of creation and acknowledging that what we understand of God is only a whisper of something far greater. Yet Job refuses to surrender his integrity or accept the accusations of those who insist that his suffering must be the result of wrongdoing.
Then, in Mark 15–16, we arrive at the defining events of the gospel: the crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
We witness Jesus rejected, mocked, and condemned. We see the violence of human power directed against the One who has come to reveal the love of God. And then, on the first day of the week, the women arrive at the tomb and discover that the stone has been rolled away.
The crucified Jesus has been raised.
What appeared to be the final triumph of violence and death becomes the announcement of a new beginning.
Today's invitation is to discover that the love revealed in Jesus Christ is stronger than the forces that threaten to destroy us. The resurrection is God's great declaration that sin, violence, and death will not have the final word.
