TODAY'S EPISODE Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible. Today is October 12th, 2026, day 285 in our journey through the Scriptures.
Today we find the people of Israel gathering together after years of exile and rebuilding. The walls of Jerusalem have been restored, but there is something even more important happening. The people are rediscovering the Word of God. As Ezra reads the Scriptures, they begin to weep. But Nehemiah reminds them that this is not a day for sorrow. It is a day for celebration, because the joy of the Lord is their strength.
In Acts 1, we find another community standing at the threshold of something new. Jesus has risen from the dead, and before ascending to the Father, he promises his disciples that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them. They are being invited into a life they could never create for themselves, a life shaped by the presence and power of the risen Christ.
TODAY'S DEVOTION: The Joy of Beginning Again There's something beautiful about a new beginning. But there's also something frightening about it. Especially when we've been through seasons of loss, disappointment, or failure. Sometimes we wonder whether things can really be different. Whether something broken can truly be made whole.
That's where we find the people in Nehemiah today. They've rebuilt the walls, but God is doing something deeper than rebuilding a city. He's restoring a people. As they hear the Scriptures, they begin to recognize just how far they've wandered. And they weep.
But then comes this beautiful invitation: Don't mourn. Don't weep. Celebrate. Because the joy of the Lord is your strength.
I love that. Their strength isn't found in their ability to get everything right. It isn't found in their determination to never fail again. Their strength is found in the joy of the Lord. In God's own gladness, his faithfulness, his delight in the people he has never abandoned.
And then we turn to Acts 1. Jesus is preparing to leave his disciples, but he isn't leaving them alone. He promises them the Holy Spirit. The very life of God will be poured out upon them. They won't have to carry out his mission in their own strength. They will participate in his life and his work.
And that's good news for us today, my friends. Because maybe you're standing at the beginning of something new. Maybe you're rebuilding after a difficult season. Maybe you're carrying some regrets, some disappointments, or the lingering feeling that you should be further along by now.
Hear this today: The risen Christ has not abandoned you. His Spirit is with you. And the joy of the Lord is your strength.
The good news isn't that you've finally figured out how to hold everything together. The good news is that Christ holds you. And he is making all things new.
So today, receive his joy. Trust his presence. And take the next step, knowing that the One who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and for you.
May it be so.
TODAY'S PRAYERS:
Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.
Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen
And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray...
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread,...
