March 8th, 21- Day 67, Year 7

Punishment was due them.  They were rebellious.  They worshiped other gods.  Even after God had rescued them from Egypt, after all that, they would still reject him, like all people everywhere. We reject God.  But God doesn’t reject us.  I know it sounds like this, like God is wanting to reject them. To do away with them.  and no doubt this is what Moses believes to be true about the heart of God, But God’s heart is not  fully known to Moses yet.  He like we are seeing through a glass darkly.  One day he will fully see, and fully know the heart of God.   the day that he sees Jesus face to face, the day that he sees Jesus the Son of God offering himself on behalf of all rebellious humanity on another mountain, on Mt Moriah.  There in the Christological light of eternity, the true heart of God is seen by Moses.  And the heart he sees far exceeds what Moses even thought imaginable.

Moses had to plead, over and over again for the people.  Moses was a good advocate for the people,  as falls face down, time and time again, pleading that God would be merciful to these rebels.  And God was merciful.  God’s mercy was not because these people had somehow meritted Gods mercy,  but because God had promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that he would find a way to rescue them, to bless them.  And His plan was, not just for them, but for people all over the world.

Mark 15 shows us exactly how God is going to do that.  By offering himself, by pouring out his self giving sacrificial love on the cross, taking punishment on our  behalf, ransoming us from sin, death and the grave.  He’s doing something about rebel-hearted people.  He’s forgiving them, shedding his blood for them, pouring out his spirit on them. He’s standing in their stead,he is rescuing them from their delusion, he has come not to judgment the world but to save the world through him.   

someone greater than Moses is their Advocate now.  The Jesus is a Greater Advocate,. Jesus is undoing what Adam did.  The vicarious life of Christ was not just for the descendents of Abraham. This was for all humanity.  I Cor 15 “For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”  

Jesus is a better Moses, and he has come to reveal the Father’s heart toward us, and to make a way for us to enter and occupy life.  In Him. So let us enter in.  amen
