ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING: Proverbs 22 – 24 and Romans 14.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

Our readings today are Proverbs 22 – 24 and Romans 14.  We are reading from the New Living Translation.

Attitude is everything.  If you want to be strengthened and built up, and you want to see that for God’s people too, then attitude is everything.  Paul tells us:

If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up. (Rm 14:18-19)

What is this attitude?  It’s the attitude of Christ, himself.  We read about it in Philippians 2:5-7.  Paul says,

Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.

This is the attitude that is everything.

  • Being able to do everything with a heart to honor God and serve others
  • Laying down my privileges in order to love God and keep harmony between myself and my sister and brother.

Does that seem impossible?  It is, apart from Christ.  The only way that we can have the attitude of Christ, is to have Christ.  This quality of living requires his life in us.  His life empowers us to lay down our life, to not insist on being first but willing to be 2nd.  Christian, this Attitude resides in you, just as Christ resides in you. T The Spirit within you desires to empower you to live this kind of selfless life, even today.  The self giving, radically forgiving, co suffering love that is at the heart of God, has been given to you, To encounter this love, to be awakened and discipled in this love, will enable you to have this same loving attitude toward others.  Your life will then become an expression of God’s Kingdom.   He enables you to live out this kind of attitude in your relationships, with those that are closest to you: your wife, husband, children, employees, your employer, your neighbor – all those around you.

Attitude is everything.  We are invited to have this attitude of Christ.  Walk in the strength and joy of Christ, happy to be 2nd, happy to be in Him.

You are loved!
