Our readings today are Proverbs 4 – 6 and Romans 8.  We are reading from the New Living Translation.

God does what our bodies cannot do.  God achieves what our sinful natures fail to achieve. The beginning of Romans 8 says,

So God did what the law could not do.  He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have.  And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. (8:3)

There are some things that we just cannot do on our own.  We, and our world, are just too broken.  But that brokenness that is evident in our flesh and the world, will never prevent, obstruct, or stop, God’s love.  Nothing can keep God from having the final say.

No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (8:39)

We had no hope, my friend, until God sent his son, in a body like we sinners have.  And in that Body, he brought us his love, hope, and vision of what our lives can be like, as we allow his Spirit to inhabit our bodies.  Then we can know that love, life, and hope that goes beyond these bodies.

Friends, you are loved.

Friends, you are loved.  And God’s love endures forever.  There is no separating you from that love.  And now, because of what Christ has done for you, you are invited to allow his life to live in and through you, by his Spirit.  Be reminded that He bought you.  You belong to him.  Allow the life of Christ that lives in you, to find fuller expression through you, in everything you do.
