MAY 21,   A CHANGED HEART

Today’s readings are I Kings 7, II Chronicles 4, Psalm 98 and Romans 2.  We are reading from the New Living Translation.

An unchanged heart is already judged and condemned.  Anyone who is honest about the nature of their heart will recognize that they are in need of God. Whether they have the written word of God like the Jews did, that bears witness to this fact, or whether it’s just their conscience that tells them this is so - if we’re honest we will realize that we need a new heart.  We are law-breakers who are broken-hearted, deserving of God’s judgement and in need of God’s mercy.  The law and the conscience both tell us of our need.

God’s answer for our need of a changed heart is his one and only son.  When God’s spirit comes to reinhabit us we are born again, made new, given a new heart, that can trust and walk in relationship with God, and be truly changed.  This is the evidence that we are the true children of God.  That relationship with God is based, no on my piety, or my pedigree, or race, but on God’s grace, revealed to us in the person and work of Christ himself.  God has given us the answer to our need for a new heart, and it’s Christ his son.  And he desires to live in and through each of his children.  And that is the life that we were made for.

Live in the power of Christ in you.  Abide in Him, his Word, his joy and his life.

You are loved!
