JULY 13,  IT’S A WALK OF FAITH

Today’s readings are Isaiah 19-21 and Hebrews 11.  We are reading from the New Living Translation.

How much more do I need to say?, the writer of Hebrews asks.  It’s always been the same story, from the very beginning until now. So how much more needs to be said? From A to Z; from righteous Abel to Zechariah,  and all the names in between,  it’s been the same, from beginning to end. The righteous live by faith. It’s always been that simple and always been that sublime.  There’s no secret knowledge required. It’s as simple as ABC. It’s trusting that there is a God, that he has shown up in Christ, and that He’s going to mend this broken world. It’s believing that God is here with us, and that He’s going to do something about this. We can actually walk with him through this life, keeping our eyes focussed on him. He’s come to live in us and empower us in this journey of faith. And that means that we can begin to experience change. And that is good news!

How much more do I need to say? (Heb 11:32 NLT)  It’s always been by faith. The righteous have always lived by faith.  We can stay out of the ditch of trying to perform our way into God’s favor by simply trusting and resting in the favor that’s been given to us in Jesus Christ. Its pretty simple. And the righteous have always held to that.  From A to Z, all of them have lived by faith. And we too can add our name to that happy band of people we read about today. Living by faith doesn’t mean that it’s going to work out the way we always want it to work out, here and now.  But it does mean that it is going to work out in the end. God is going to work all things together, for the good, for those who love and trust Him, and walk by faith.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Rm 8:28 NLT)

The invitation is there to add your name to that group of all those who have discovered that God loves us and is leading us home.  It’s as simple as ABC.

You are loved!
