HERE IS THE MAIN POINT
Today’s readings are Isaiah 8 – 10 and Hebrews 8. We are reading through the New Living Translation.
Here’s the main point. Are you ready for it? That’s what the writer of Hebrews wants to tell us, right here in verse one.
Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven.
We have a High Priest. If we connect all the points along the way, we will arrive at this main point, and it is Jesus. He is our Advocate – our High Priest – the one who stands in our place before God. That’s what high priests do. He is the main point. And what he has done, and continues to do, is so much better than any other person or priest or prophet, has ever done. Our High Priest not only rescued us from slavery, the way Moses did; freeing us from our past, our guilt and shame. But our priest, Jesus, has done far more than that. His ultimate and final answer for how we live our lives is not to give us written laws on tablets of stone, that we are not able to obey. No. He has written laws not on stone, but on our hearts. He has given us new hearts, by his abiding presence in us, bringing change to our hearts, from the inside out. Verse 10 says:
But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
All the points along the way – the people, priests and prophets – are driving to the ultimate prophet, priest, and king – Jesus. He is the main point. What he has done has given us real life now – a life of freedom, the power to change, to grow, and to love. He is the main point.
Live in the light of Jesus, the Ultimate point of it all. Take Him to heart. Recognize that his life is in you. He has written his law on your mind and heart, and he is making you new.
