Daily Radio Bible Podcast

Job is being undone. Everything's being stripped away. He's descending into nothingness. All of it together is just too deep for words. So his friends come and just sit with him in silence. And even though we don't see yet, God has come to sit with Job too. And that's the story of the Bible, that God has come to sit with us just as we are, just where we are.

In God's silence, he's not trying to gather up his answers for Job suffering, like Job's friends. He's not looking at who can be rightfully blamed for his suffering, like Job's friends. No, in his silence, God has fully identified with all the suffering, all the darkness, it's what he's doing for all of us too.  Job's story points us to the one who comes to sit with all of humanity, to put on flesh, to assume all of humanity into himself. And in his body, and in his suffering, he abolishes death, sin and the grave. And in his co-suffering, love, he restored the whole nature of humanity in himself. Job's story points to the one who died on behalf of all, the one who would taste death on behalf of all, in Jesus, God comes in a human body to sit with us, in order that he might offer himself to us as a sacrifice for all the broken bodies, like you, and like me.

The prayer of my own heart today is that I will see in job for God who comes to sit with us and restore us to life. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you may be so

You are loved!
